I was thinking if I were to do this, going with the Barbie Doll idea. What if I did my work on a social issue such as social stereotypes of women and how the media has oversexualized women in the media.
I would think I would approach this by shooting a woman doing a social stereotypical role such as being in the kitchen, but the would be in a bathing suit or underwear; this way it like a double "whammy".
Is this a good thought? Should I be focusing on both at the same time or is that overextending myself?
I guess I have two comments on this direction.
ReplyDelete1 - I think you had a strong body of work that was developing last semester and I would hate to see you totally change direction without taking some of what you have learned both visually and conceptually into consideration.
2 - If you were to go the Barbie route I'm sure you would get a lot of questions as to why you were interested in such a gender specific topic when you are the opposite gender. How do you know how a woman feels when they see themselves portrayed in a particular way by the media? You are once removed from this vantage point and I'm curious as to how you came up with the topic and how you feel your gender will influence the outcome? I hope you don't take these questions to be of a negative tone because they are not - simply an inquiry...
